October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The annual campaign creates awareness around the risks of the disease. There are multiple events held throughout the month to educate and encourage women to reduce the risk of the disease by seeking out their healthcare providers to discuss preventive screening options such as mammograms and other methods of early detection.
According to the American Cancer Association, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. It is the most common cause of cancer in American women.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation has put together a free Breast Health Guide outlining healthy habits, assessing your personal risk, signs & symptoms, and early detection.
